Think Dubai is a crazy expensive city? You’d be correct, as it turns out there’s only 12 cities in the world that are more expensive for a holiday than here.

An annual report released by Hoppa, the airport transfer company, lists 84 worldwide holiday destinations on a scale of cheapest to most expensive.

The survey is based on the average price of a basket of goods and services (hotel, food, drink, taxi, tours and entertainment) from each location.

The world’s most expensive city is Zurich in Switzerland, while the cheapest destination in the world is apparently Sofia in Bulgaria – duly noted for when we plan our next getaway.

Dubai has narrowly escaped the top ten most expensive cities, ranking at 13th on the list, making it more expensive than Doha (14), Paris (15), Tokyo (17) and Las Vegas (18).
