8 UAE April Fools Jokes That Ranged From Hilarious To Basic And Everything In Between
Ah April Fools, it’s giving everyone trust issues, isn’t it?
You don’t know what news is real, or jokes, and it’s tough to discern.
We’ve pulled a few today, we admit – but our writers were also working to separate the jokes from the news, with a hoard of press releases hitting our inboxes ranging from the OTT madness to the questionable whether it’s true.
Well, we can confirm the news about good conduct certificates being postponed is NOT an April Fools.
But here are a few of the jokes you (or we) may have fallen for today.
8. The Floating Sky Terrace at Q43
This one was a giveaway a mile off. Q43 promising a 1,000sqf floating terrace – it was too grand a dream, even for Dubai.
7. Parrot Flowers at 800Flowers
According to 800flower.ae, it’s flowers that can repeat a vocal message upon opening them.
The florists promise the recording and playback tech is grown into the flowers, and can last two weeks.
Cyborg flowers aren’t quite on the market yet though.
6. Restaurant bookings with Booking.com
Almost believable, Booking.com proclaimed it would be offering up bookings for restaurants, it barely even seems like a joke.
This is probably the most likely to actually happen right?
5. Space with Careem
As ambitious and exciting as Careem is, saying it is venturing into space exploration is a bit of a stretch, even for Careem.
Now we’re not saying it won’t ever happen, but the company has enough on at the moment and we’re still waiting for an update on Virgin Galactic so….
4. Vanilla-pickle popcorn at Reel Cinemas
It sounds pretty rank, and thankfully it WAS a joke. Reel Cinemas posted to its Facebook page with this shocking concoction, but it’s not likely this idea will ever be coming soon to a cinema near you.
3. WashKids by Washmen
Now this is cute.
Washmen, the laundry company announced it would be shuttling female cleaners out to houses to wash children for AED99.
If only this one were true eh?
2. SkyLounge by Emirates
Ah Emirates, they know the balance of quirky-realistic, and they nail it every year. Last year was the triple-decker plane, and this year, the SkyLounge promises transparent walls – or floor-to-ceiling windows.
We almost wish this one were true.
1. The Lovin World Island by Lovin Dubai
We couldn’t very well make a list and not have ourselves as number one, could we!? Lovin Dubai was set to take over one of the world islands, and turn it into a party island.
That wouldn’t be so bad now, would it?
