Earlier this month, the Ajman Police stepped in to rehabilitate an uzbek grandmother and a child after they were rendered homeless.

They were thrown out of their apartment after the 71-year-old grandmother’s daughter had been jailed over a bounced cheque.

But it turns out that there was more to the story…

The woman and grandson had racked up visa overstaying fines of AED100, 000 and were going to hand themselves in to the police when a woman stopped to offer some help.

The 33-year-old Syrian woman spotted them on the street in Ras Al Khor with their luggage and felt compelled to help, reports The National.

How the authorities have helped the family is simply amazing

The mother of the nine-year-old boy, it turns out, was jailed for bounced cheques and for absconding from her sponsor. Her son and mother were on her residency visa and the boy’s father had walked out on his family.
The grandmother’s residency visa had been expired for four years and the boy’s for eight.

They managed to not only get the fines waived but also got the mother released from jail and arranged for flights back home.

They are to fly within 10 days of the intervention

Dubai Police have honoured the Syrian woman who is a PhD law student for her good work.
