A Woman Posing At The Destroyed Beirut Port Is Facing The Wrath Of The Internet

Avatar

Last week’s devastating explosion in Beirut will be felt for years to come.

Lives lost, homes destroyed, and here in Dubai, you’ll find a city of Lebanese expats, hearts broken and watching from afar, feeling the strain of being unable to help their families cope through this tortured time.

So it’s not surprising the internet is riled at a photo of what appears to be a woman posing (you decide) at the Port in Beirut, the site of the blast.

Her intentions are unclear, but the internet has cast judgement on this photo that’s gone viral. The verdict? People are not impressed.

One resident is calling for the woman to be named and shamed

The internet cast its verdict

There are countless strongly-worded comments directed at this woman. The deep rage is coming from a place of sadness over the cruel reality of what happened last week. The question does still stand: Was she simply snapped in the wrong place at the wrong time? Are people faster to judge because of her outfit? In one image, she appears to be taking a photo of a plainly dressed man, also in front of the site. He’s not posing. Will HE be vilified?

The decision to take a photo of yourself standing before the freshly destroyed site, with the smell of loss so clearly still hanging in the air IS worthy of being called into question.
