Two Dubai Models Respond To Frighteningly Cruel Internet Trolls

Avatar

Two Dubai models take a pic together and the response they get is very different.

Ameni Esseibi and Danae Mercer are both Dubai based models. Separately they promote body-acceptance and self-love, but after an image they snapped together was harshly criticised (Ameni took the majority of hate) both ladies decided to speak out.

Not *just* calling out the trolls, and their frighteningly cruel comments, both  models also wanted to acknowledge the privilege that comes with sharing such posts.

Ameni first called out the trolls. She said,

“Sometimes body acceptances advocates @danaemercer and I take photos together, and often they’re shared on other accounts. Always, without fail, hatred rolls in. And always, without fail, it’s directed overwhelmingly to me.”

One troll commented: “One is normal, one is obese”

She goes on to talk about body struggles BOTH models have faced

“They don’t know that I struggled with body confidence and self-love for years. They don’t know anything. They don’t know that @danaemercer starved herself to a point where her body was shutting down and her hair was falling out and everything felt cold, always cold.”

But the underlying theme of the post is privilege. Privilege that Danae’s body is ‘approved’, not hers. Going further, Ameni also describes how we don’t realise how privileged we really are and she knows that to share this image will inspire trolls, while others will also call her brave. Which is itself, a privilege.

Danae shared her own response to the same post, recognising the cruel reality “always, without fail, it’s directed overwhelmingly at Ameni”

“My body is approved. And this, this is privilege.” She adds how Ameni was visiting a trainer two times a week when this was snapped, while she herself has battled eating disorders to the point that her hair fell out and her body felt cold. Again, the underlying theme is privilege.

“Or that every person is allowed to have their own overlapping layers of battles and challenges, It does say that sometimes, For some of us, Certain things are taken out of that equation. To the point we may not have even thought about it. To the point we may not have even realized just how privileged, in some ways, that we are.”

Both models routinely share posts to promote body-acceptance
