‘Lebanon Is Not Alone’: The French President Tweets In Arabic On Arrival In Beirut

Avatar

After a shock explosion hit Beirut, people questioned whether an official visit by French President Emmanuel Macron would go ahead. It has. And he’s throwing his weight behind a show of solidarity for Lebanon.

Today, he was greeted on arrival by Lebanon’s President Michel Aoun where he kickstarted an official tour in which he will urge people to send immediate aid to the grieving country. Making a stand for the Lebanese people, the French President tweeted (in Arabic no less) to tell the world, ‘Lebanon is not alone’.

A simple message, but coupled with his visit, this sends an important message to his people, the people of Lebanon and the world

His tweet was met with praise

Touching down in the disaster-struck capital, he visited parts of the city which were damaged in Tuesday’s explosion

135 people have tragically died, and 5,000 were wounded in the blasts which have left up to 300,000 homeless, approximately half of the city damaged and 85% of its grain stocks destroyed, according to international reports. Lebanon needs our help.
