A Dubai Instagram Influencer Wasn’t Invited To An Event And Didn’t Hold Back Her Feelings

Event season has started in Dubai. And like everything else here, the events are pretty spectacular, but also pulled together at amazing speed, so much so it’s hard to keep up.

Like anything, weddings, birthdays etc., it’s an understandable human reaction to be a bit miffed at not being invited.

With events in Dubai, it’s important that the investment and effort going into making sure the brand or promotion comes off well, and a lot of that is down to who attends, and how the event is covered in the media, not to mention by influencers.

In recent years influencers (let’s just categorize those who earn a living partially from brand collaborations n their social media profiles) have had right of passage at events here. So what happened yesterday, brought light to a question, should it be expected that influencers can attend any event they like?

Alexa L who runs the Style and Macaroni fashion blog certainly thinks so

Alexa attends events in Dubai and captures the occasion on her online profiles

Alexa, who describes her self as an “(Ice Cream) lover & creative, flying around the world playing dress up & looking for the best” and has 32,800 Instagram followers

Not being invited to an Esquire Magazine event held in the Sean Connolly restaurant at Dubai Opera, a celebration for publishing 100 editions of their Middle East magazine, was the trigger for Alexa’s comments, many of which contained profanity and can’t be reshared, however, in summary, it was a general complaint about not being invited to events and the poor quality of drinks served at them.

The next day, Alexa shared a new stream of video stories with her reaction to the incident.

“And the funny thing is that my stories yesterday were more watched that the Esquire awards”

Much of what was said upset people such as: “half of the bloggers in Dubai have never actually worked”

Other’s applauded the courage to speak her mind and supported what she had to say

Alexa finished the second day commentary with a message for bloggers: “The day you realize you can be broke and go to Carrefour and get your lipstick, and still be happy, that’s the day”
