Nike Has Released A Line Of Hijab For Sports That Were A Year In The Making

After a year of designs and product testing, Nike has released a hijab designed for women to wear while playing sports.

Working with athletes, the hijab is designed with light-weight, breathable material; Nike Pro power mesh. It features strategically placed holes for breathability, is stretchy for movement, and the back of the neck area is elongated so it will never come untucked.

Fluff threads were used at the neck to eliminate the rubbing and irritation that can occur when an athlete sweats.

It came about due to popular demand from female athletes who wear hijab but want to compete in sports

UAE weightlifter, Amna Al Hadid is an Olympic-level weightlifter, and she has recounted how the garment’s weight, the potential for it to shift during action and its lack of breathability disrupted her focus.

Female athletes in the region have sung the praises of the product, including figure skater, Zahra Lari

“I was really hesitant when I first saw it.

“I was thrilled and a bit emotional to see Nike prototyping a Hijab, but I’ve tried so many different hijabs for performance, and with how fast I spin on the ice and in training, so few of them actually work for me.  But once I put it on and took it for a spin on the ice, I was blown away by the fit and the light weight.”

Nike is taking big steps to empower and enable Arabic women in sports, and recently launched the ‘What Will They Say About You’ campaign to positive feedback.
