Saying that the St. Regis Dubai is one of the nicest hotels in Dubai would rarely be contested. From the majestic driveway, the stunning staircase to the opulent Winston Churchill suite that costs a cool AED 75,000 per night to stay, not to mention the views of Dubai Water Canal, this is a special hotel in a great location. Just as well the restaurants live up to the high standards.
A group of industry colleagues that has a regular business dinner, usually over steak, were looking for somewhere new to try. I didn’t hesitate to recommend J&G Steak House at the St. Regis. Luckily it didn’t disappoint.
1. The setting and the bar
There is something nice about having a large bar area in a restaurant for arrivals. There were 16 of us, we had opted for the new ‘All That Jazz’ new option, more details below, which came with a complementation Vodka or Gin martini, so we all had that drink at the bar while we waited for the inevitable stragglers! The welcome is pretty much exactly like this video:
2. The striploin
Steak isn’t supposed to be fussy, or showy. But it is expected to be well cooked, and leave you satisfied. All 16 guys had this steak, and everyone was impressed. A really tasty, well cooked, piece of meat. They had a really spicy mustard on the table as well that went well.
3. All That Jazz
This is a new set menu that features the famous NYC striploin steak and strawberry cheesecake while you enjoy the sounds of musical jazz duo, Jazz Wave of New York. It takes place every Friday evening from 6:30pm. So for a very reasonable AED285 , you will get all this:
- Welcome drink: Cocktail – Vodka or Gin Martini, Mocktail – Cucumber Lemonade, Pink Grapefruit & Mint
- To start: Tomato Sweet Onion & Blue Cheese Salad
- Main: Coal Grilled NYC Striploin Steak
- Side dish: Truffle Macaroni & Cheese
- Dessert: Strawberry Cheesecake
This is amazing value for two people on to finish ofAf the week, for AED 850 for two people and you get:
- A bottle of red wine (a Bordeaux) to share
- Bread (that’s so much more than your regular bread)
- Two starters to share
- 1.4 Kg of delicious steak complete with four sauces to dig in to
- 2 sides dishes
- Dessert to share
5. Meat lovers brunch on a Saturday
Those who are familiar with the Dubai Brunch Scene will know that the St. Regis have one of the most popular Friday bunches in the City, the Versailles brunch, so rather than compete with that, J&G Steakhouse have their own Saturday brunch, t they If the above options don’t suit you, try this. It’s described as: “Meat connoisseurs can feast on their choice of succulent steaks and an array of starters from our salad bar. Our dessert display provides the perfect finishing touches for an unforgettable experience.”
6. The cigar room afterward
Well it was a lads night after all. The St. Regis cigar room feels like Khalaf Al Habtoorr living room and is was so rich in ornaments and artifacts, it even had one his novel on display.
There is a great little English pub around the corner called The Rose and Crown or BOA nightclub in the W Hotel if you fancy that after. In other words, pick one of the above options, or even another night, and make an occasion out of it!
It should be pointed out that Al Habtoor City isn’t yet the busiest place in Dubai, although Business Bay is definitely up an coming and places along Dubai Water Canal will be very busy in a few years, unless you go on a Friday and Saturday, it can be a bit quiet. But it you go with company, like we did, you don’t notice who else is there
