This Fun Paint & Sip Class Is The Perfect Excuse To Get Out Of The House On A Week Night

Six years ago, Dutch UAE resident Denise Schmitz created ‘We Love Art’, one of the UAE’s most popular ‘paint & sip classes’.

With little marketing or promotion, the bi-monthly classes continue to book out, month in-month out, with many guests returning again and again, forming a community of art lovers and painting buffs.

If a night sipping grape, listening to French jazz with your mates (or solo!) and flexing your brush skills sounds good, this is for you:

Last night I joined one of the classes at the Intercontinental, Dubai Marina (location varies). The set-up was impressive, it was well organised and Schmitz usually expects a large turnout.

Over 80 easels were prepped with paint, brushes, tumblers of water and instructional booklets, ready to go. The large terrace doors were wide open, with the Dubai Marina views beyond; the stunning set-up set the tone for an excellent evening ahead.

You’re given a pre-sketched canvas and told to run wild

In other paint & sip classes I’ve been to, a tutor takes you step-by-step through the painting. This gets frustrating; people paint a different pace, and either you want to take it slow, or go full speed ahead.

Here you have the freedom to go at whatever pace you please within the three hour class. Drinks and small plates available and served to the table make it a hassle-free evening.
