Team Angel Wolf Completed The Dubai Marathon And It’s All Kinds Of Inspiring
Team Angel Wolf is a group formed by the Watson family here in Dubai and aims to spread awareness and encourage people of all abilities to embrace their own health.
Their son, Rio, has a rare chromosome disorder called ‘1q44 deletion denovo syndrome’, which causes various health issues such as seizures, gross/fine motor skills disabilities and learning disabilities but his family is keen to stress just how happy and loving Rio is.
The Watson family, dad Nick, mom Delphine, son Rio and daughter Tia, have been working together to spread awareness of how those with disabilities can be included in fitness activities and have been inspiring people since they began.
Rio joins his family in various sporting and fitness events
Marthons, triatholons, Spartan races, cycles, swims, running. You name it they’ve done it.
The Watson’s want to compete as a family and that means no one gets left behind, regardless of ability.
In a specialised chariot/disability running chair, Rio, and many other people of determination, are able to join in in activities which before many would have thought impossible to do.
Their latest achievement saw them complete the Dubai Marathon yesterday
Taking on the full 42 kms Nick Watson and Rio completed the run together.
And for the first time they were not alone…
They were joined by four other teams of runners and riders.
Using five specialised running chairs, the dedicated runner/pushers and their inspiring riders/people of determination all crossed the finish line together in emotional scenes.
Writing on Instagram, Nick Watson shared how this had always been the vision for Team Angel Wolf, to include more than just Rio and his family and to spread the message of embracing and including everyone.
“It feels quite emotional looking at all the chairs together … as this is what it has always been about … we wanted #TeamAngelWolf to always be more than just about Nick & Rio (that was the base story to help the bigger idea) …it was for community and to spread the #TeamAngelWolf message further by embracing others …and we have eventually got there!
