UAE Was All But Officially Eliminated From The 2018 FIFA World Cup Yesterday And There Was A Major Casualty

The coach of the UAE’s national football team, Mahdi Ali has announced he will be stepping down from his role after the UAE lost to the Australian team, The Socceroos in Sydney this week. 

Ali said he feels he has taken the team as far as he can, after working with the squad for the past 13 years.

Ali got the team to third in the Asian Cup in 2015 and was one of the longest-serving coaches in the Asian region 

But after Tuesday’s loss, Ali told reporters: “I think after five years, I have done my best, we have many achievements.

“This is a very bad time for me, I wish I could leave the national team in a better condition. But this is life, we have to accept it.

Ali also said he had offered to resign in November, after the UAE beat Iraq in the qualifer, but he was persuaded to stay on

He continued: “I tried my best with all the tools I have. But the coach is only one part of the team.

“I thank the staff, the team but I think it is time for me to leave.”
