This Upside Down Skyscraper Could Be Dubai’s Most Insane Project To Date

A habitat on Mars, revolving skyscrapers, autonomous passenger drones… Dubai is always coming out with kooky concepts but this has to take the cake!

Clouds Architecture Office (COA), based in New York, has reportedly presented a new idea for the world’s next tallest skyscraper, and it involves leaving the stratosphere.

COA has proposed suspending the world’s tallest skyscraper from an asteroid, leaving residents to parachute to earth!

It is estimated that it will be cheaper to build one in Dubai than in New York as proven specialists in tall building construction work for one-fifth the cost of contractors in NYC.

Using the asteroid system, the building can be transported to anywhere in the world…

We’re wondering if this is an elaborate PR stunt?

According to COA’s website…

Prefabricated modules would be hoisted up from earth and plugged into the building’s extendable core, which would be tethered by cables to the asteroid.

The plan is to place a large asteroid 50,000 km above sea level (commercial planes usually fly at about 12km) in Earth’s atmosphere, and suspend a giant building from it with a “high strength cable”.

The designers are hoping to acquire an asteroid from NASA’s scheduled asteroid retrieval mission in 2021

The structure uses the Universal Orbital Support System (UOSS), an inversion of the traditional earth-supported system.

It’s reported that the project will be oriented towards storage rather than habitation purposes.

Hmm, is this science gone mad, or is it an elaborate hoax? We don’t know.
