10 Traffic Laws You Need To Be Aware Of Right Now
With new road rules coming into place on July 1, some were confused about the rules – what the changes were and what it means for drivers.
This is particularly proven by the fact that more than 1,200 drivers were booked in the first weekend of July.
The laws are UAE-wide, and all highways are now streamlined to have the same rules – a 20km/h window over the speed limit.
Here are 10 of the most significant laws you need to know when hittin the road.
1. Not wearing a seat-belt, AED400
One of the most significant changes to the laws, is the rule that all passengers must wear seat-belts in a vehicle.

2. Blocking the road during an accident, AED1,000
Rubbernecking could get you fines of up to AED1,000, as can blocking the roads near a road-incident.
3. Driving a noisy vehicle, AED2,000
A lot of drivers could be in for a rude shock with this law.
4. Not giving way to pedestrians at designated crossings, AED500
Safety is key, and drivers failure to allowing pedestrians to cross at set crossings will be hit with an AED500 fine.
5. Throwing waste from vehicles, AED1,000
Litterbugs be warned! Cigarette butts, trash, and anything thrown from a vehicle could turn into an expensive act.
6. Allowing children under the age of 10 years old to sit in the front seat, AED400
Children shorter than 145cm, or younger than 10 years old are not permitted to sit in the front seat. It’s for their safety, so make sure you follow the rules

7. Carrying or transporting passengers illegally, AED1,000
Plus 12 black points and a confiscation of the car for 30 days for any passengers not travelling in a car in the proper way.
8. Distracted by a mobile phone, AED800
Any other distractions of the same nature are also relevant and you’ll get hit with four black points.
9. Parking on pavement, AED400
Common sense yes, but a common mishap in the UAE!
10. Leaving a vehicle on the road with its engine running, AED300
No more leaving the car running while you pop into the shop eh!
