Selling fireworks is illegal in Dubai. There is a fine of up to AED 5,000 and three months in prison for doing so. However, that isn’t deterring some people, as there have been 20,000 boxes seized over the past four years.
The main fireworks displays in Dubai all have the required permits.
Dubai Police have said they have seen a number of fires caused because of illegal fireworks and that they have seen children from the ages of eight playing with fireworks.
People were buying them and have been setting them off on their balconies.
Some people set them off out of their hands
