A 63-Year Old Woman Gave Birth In A Dubai Hospital This Week
A 63-year-old Sri Lankan woman gave birth to her third child in a Dubai hospital this week.
The woman had been on IVF for a year prior to the birth, and the baby was born by emergency c-section four weeks prematurely but both mother and child are in good health now.
The pregnancy was a difficult one for the mother, as she was diagnosed with gestational diabetes, pre-eclampsia [hypertension during pregnancy] and placenta previa [the condition when a baby’s placenta partially or totally covers the opening in the mother’s cervix], following her check-ups at the hospital.
A doctor at the hospital said woman who are healthy enough to have a baby at an older age ‘shouldn’t be afraid to do so’
“Women who are healthy enough to have a baby in their later years shouldn’t be scared to do so. One should let nature decide. Childbearing at 63-years of age is extremely rare, but not a record. The patient and the baby have responded well to the treatment at our facility and have been doing well.”
