More Than 7500 Drivers Have Been Fined For Violation Of A Serious UAE Rule

The Abu Dhabi traffic police have registered a total of 7,592 cases against drivers and passengers failing to buckle up their seatbelts in the past two months.

The seatbelt law was included in the Federal Traffic Law and came into effect on July 1, and ever since that more than 7,500 drivers were handed the AED400 penalty for flouting the law.

The drivers were also given four black points on their license

In a positive revelation, however, Deputy director of Abu Dhabi Traffic Department, Lt-Col Salah Al Humairi said they have seen a significant decrease in the seatbelt violations — from 11,991 to 7,592— since the new amendment came into effect.

The new regulations have made it mandatory for the passengers to buckle up, and children below four years old must also sit in designated car seats.
