A Notice Stating Tourists Are Exempt From Traffic Fines Circulated On Social Media And Dubai Police Had To Clear Things Up

Dubai Police have come out to dispell rumors that tourists are exempt from traffic fines following a card with the department’s logo attached was spread on Social Media. Dubai Police say they did not share the card and that it appears to be from 5 years ago.

There was also a reminder that spreading information about things that aren’t true can face legal action. Without a date on the card, and confusion over the rules, it’s good that the rules have now been cleared up by Dubai Police.

Tourists can receive traffic fines just like those who live in Dubai

“Few years ago the Dubai Traffic Department had exempted tourists, who committed minor traffic offences, from being fined to ‘make them happy’, however recently the Dubai police has not taken this decision and they were just rumors,”

Major General Mohamed Saif Al Zafeen, Head of the Traffic Prosecution Council and Assistant Commander in Chief of the Dubai Operations Affairs

The card, pictured above, contained the following text:

“Dear driver, as you are a guest in the UAE and came on a visit visa to Dubai, you are welcome and and we wish you a good stay. We regret to inform you that you were caught by radars as you were not following traffic rules, but despite that we will not issue you a fine, but our goal is your safety.”
