A Scottish man’s recent ordeal in Dubai has come to an end today after he was released by police.

31 year old Billy Barclay was detained by police in September 2017 after an incident which occurred in September last year.

The ordeal began in 2016 after he tried to exchange a counterfeit £20 note

Mr. Barclay attempted to exchange a small sum of money in an exchange centre in Ras Al Khaimah last year when one of the notes, £20, turned out to be a forgery.

Police were called to the centre and Mr. Barclay was arrested and questioned but later released with no charges.

Mr. Barlcay and his family continued with their holiday and returned home to Scotland with no further issues.

It wasn’t until he returned to Dubai a year later that an issue arose

Not deterred by their experience in 2016 the family returned on another holiday to Dubai last month.

It was then that Mr. Barcaly was stopped and detained at Dubai International Airport.

Mr. Barclay was detained by police for three days in jail and had his passport confiscated.

His wife and family returned home to Scotland and have been working tirelessly to get him home for the last three weeks.

Mr. Barclay’s legal team have said that the issue has been resolved and the charges cleared.

Mr. Barclay received his passport and was escorted to the airport yesterday evening to be reunited with his family in Scotland.
