A 53-year-old transit passenger travelling from UK, who was en-route to Australia via Dubai, has gone on trial for assaulting a customs officer at the Dubai International Airport.

The furious passenger threw a fit after refusing to let his luggage go through the scanner when he landed at Dubai Airport on July 25.

He ended up attacking an officer whom he threw to the ground

According to the inspector, he tried to calm the man down by telling him that it was just a routine procedure. But the man kept getting agitated and unruly following which the official proceeded to handcuff him.

“He did not want his bags to be searched but was rather agitated and kept screaming at the inspectors. I tried to make him understand that it was a routine procedure to search the traveller’s bags. I was then given an order to take him into custody. He grabbed me by my uniform and pushed me down. He kept resisting arrest but I managed to bring him under control and handcuff him.”

On further questioning, the man revealed that he was angry and frustrated because his flight to Sydney had been rescheduled for the next day. He also expressed regret over what happened and blamed travel fatigue for his actions. “I’m sorry for what I have done’, said he.
