The length of paid maternity leave has been up for debate for some time now, but yesterday The President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan announced some amendments in laws which means great news for ladies in the region.
A 3 month-paid maternity leave will be introduced
This is for the public sector. Women will also be entitled to a two-hour breastfeeding break daily during working hours for babies below four months.

Will your sick leave be affected?
The law for sick leave (in the public sector) is as follows: based on a medical report (and not exceeding five continuous days) employees are entitled to a maximum of 15 days per year, according to the Khaleej Times.
In the chance of a longer sick leave, the first 15 business days will be paid, while these days will be deducted from annual leave.
Anything over 15 sick days, and the employee must be referred to a medical committee.
What if there is a death in your family?
Federal government employees are entitled to five days paid leave (if the death is a first of kin). Employees are entitles to three days paid leave in the death of a second kin reletive
