A British man landed himself in jail following abusive messages to a car sales man.

Yaseen Killick had spent just under AED30,000 on a second hand car, which he started experiencing trouble with immediately after.

According to reports, he sent a message on WhatsApp reading ‘How do you sleep at night knowing you are ripping people off?’ when he found that the Volkswagen Golf he had purchased had been previously written off.

He told the car seller what he had done was morally wrong in a series of messages.

He spent three weeks in jail

Killick was arrested at DXB where he had been making his way home for the Christmas holidays. He spent three weeks in jail, and received an approximately AED1,300 fine.

The law regarding cyber crime in the UAE is clear, which you can read in full law here.

It’s illegal to curse both in public and online, this includes messaging apps. If convicted you could face prison, fines up to AED500,000 and deportation.
