Two Egyptian-Irish brothers completed an impressive four hour swim over the weekend to raise awareness for a very important cause.

Taking off at 5am, the two brothers swam with the hopes of raising support and money for diabetes, an illness close to their hearts following the death of their grandfather by the disease according to the National.

Speaking to the publication they said “My grandfather died due to an illness linked to diabetes. My wife’s uncle, who had diabetes, died due to a cardiac arrest almost a year ago. They were too young to die.”

The men received support form the Al Jalila Foundation, a non-profit humanitarian organisation foundation by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai

They also aim to promote a healthy lifestyle

Healthy lifestyle adjustments could change the lives of many diabetes sufferers, particularly in the UAE where we have the 16th highest diabetes rate in the world.

The Al Jalila Foundation, which supported the swim, researches prevention and treatment for diabetes among other diseases.
