In July, Scottish man Jamie Harron was arrested for public indecency and drinking alcohol without a licence after an incident at a bar, Rock Bottom, in Dubai while on a two day stop-over in the city.

The story has been reported in international media and has gained a lot of public interest.

New developments reported in the media have stated that the charges have now been dropped against Mr. Harron, yet he still faces prosecution.

A German businessman made a complaint against the Briton after an incident in the club

Mr. Harron reportedly touched the businessman inappropriately, and after repeated requests to stop made a rude gesture with his middle finger in the direction of the businessman.

Reports indicate that after an attempt to notify the club security and management the businessman contacted the police who attended the scene and arrested Mr. Harron.

According to a witness statement from Mr. Harron’s side reported in The National, “He was passing near the other man and accidentally touched his arm then immediately apologised and he patted him on his behind in a gesture that meant he was sorry”.

According to British media Mr. Harron, who was working as an electrician, has lost his job and racked up over £30,000 in legal fees since the incident occurred three months ago.

He has also been stuck in Dubai since July as police confiscated his passport following his arrest.

Now the businessman has dropped the charges against Mr. Harron

New reports have stated that the businessman has dropped all the charges against Mr.Harron but unfortunately for the 27 year old this does not mean that he is free to go.

Under UAE law prosecutors can still go ahead with the charges even if the complaint has been withdrawn, unlike other countries where the charges may be dropped.

He is still facing up to three years imprisonment for charges of public indecency and consumption of alcohol without a licence.

His lawyers have submitted an appeal and are hopeful that Mr. Harron will be able to return home soon, following the hearing which is set for October 22.
