Overworked Construction Workers Who Were Made To Work 16-18 Hours Are Stranded In Dubai

Fears are growing for 26 construction workers who are embroiled in a dispute with their employers are reportedly living on the street. 

Two Dubai based companies have been reported to refuse returning the passports of the 26 construction workers, who are stuck, unable to find accommodation.

The workers, from Rajasthan in India, cannot get their passports off the companies, according to Press Trust of India.

Officials state that it is a case of employer-employee conflict, reports the publication

Family members told the Indian press that the men are being forced to work to up to 18 hours a day and live in these conditions for about two weeks for disagreeing with certain company terms.

The men have been working in the Dubai based companies for the last three years.

Complaints have been lodged with the local police and the Indian embassy in Dubai, which are currently being investigated. 

Under UAE law, companies detaining the passports of employees can be jailed and fined for up to AED20,000.
