Starting Today The Price Of Two Major Products Will Be Increasing Throughout The UAE
The D-Day for sugary drinks comes into effect from today y’all (sobbing internally)! In addition to the 50% tax implementation of sugary drinks, e-cigarettes such as vaping devices will also see a major hike in costs as the prices of the device itself as well as the fluids will be doubled.
The new law also requires manufacturers to label the correct sugar content on the back labels of the products.
The hike in the cost is in efforts to push UAE residents to make healthier lifestyle choices
The two products that will see an increase in taxation starting today is a part of the government’s initiative to protect consumer health whilst preventing chronic diseases linked to sugar and tobacco.
According to the UAE government, this is the list of items that will be additionally taxed:
• 50% on carbonated drinks
• 100% on tobacco products
• 100% on energy drinks
• 100% on electronic smoking devices
• 100% on liquids used in the smoking devices
• 50% on any product with added sugar as well as sweeteners
