There’s No More Counterfeit Goods For Sale On Social Media And There’s One Big Reason Why

Nearly 5,000 social media accounts have been shut down for selling counterfeit goods, according to the Department of Economic Development (DED) in Dubai, and it’s particularly noticeable on Instagram.

Popular hashtags including #MyDubai and #LovinDubai (shameless plug) have been littered with pictures trying to sell products from shoes to handbags, clothing and jewellry, but they look to have been cleaned up.

According to Arabian Business, 30 websites have also been closed down, and the DED will be working to continue to regulate the market.

You can report accounts selling counterfeit goods

For physical stores – you can call 600545555, and Consumer Rights Dubai is available on social media to report cases to.

It’s also worth noting that counterfeit goods can contribute to child labour

As the origin is often unverified on the manufacturing of fake goods, they can be from unregulated sources – including locations that engage in the use of child-labour and other crimes against humanity.
