But now Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) has introduced a smart solution, you will now be instantly alerted if your water use is higher than average over the last three months, meaning you can deal with the leak before it gets out of hand.

The new free ‘High Water Usage Alert’ should detect the problem quickly

As long as your home is equipped with a smart meter (and all homes will have smart metres by 2020) you can avail of the free service.
