Disney Has Been Slammed For Creating A White Character For Aladdin That Wasn’t In The Original Film
Disney has created a role in Aladdin that wasn’t in the 1992 animated film, and cast a white actor in the part, to the internet’s frustration.
The role of Prince Anders was not in Disney’s original film, and social media users have vented their frustration that a character has been created for a white actor in a Middle Eastern-based film.
Billy Magnussen has been selected to be play the role of Prince Anders.
It comes after Disney received criticism for casting Naomi Scott, a non-Arab in the role of Princess Jasmine.
Mena Massoud, an Egyptian national will play Aladdin and Will Smith will play the Genie.
The casting directors were looking in the UAE, and wider GCC for actors to play the roles originally.
Opinions on Twitter have been divided as some people raged about Disney casting Scott, whereas the opposite side love and adore him
Can. We. Not.
Like, serious talk here. Fellow White people, it’s okay to not be in literally everything. Seriously, it’s FINE. https://t.co/H8H7ADKbJa— Your Dad On The Internet (@ravingsockmonky) September 6, 2017
