Major-General Rashid Thani Al Matroushi, Director-General of the Dubai Civil Defence today gave a detailed analysis on fires that have taken place in recent history in Dubai and spoke about the future aims of the DCD.

He told the gathered group of Dubai Police, Civil Defence and assorted private companies the cause of the Torch Fire in Dubai Marina earlier this month and also relayed some further information about fires that have taken place in Dubai over the last year.

It’s an interesting summary…

-The majority of fires which take place in high-rise buildings begin in the sauna, garbage or electricity rooms

– 3pm is the average time for reporting fires

-Most fires are recorded in June, July or August

– The majority of fires in villas break out in kitchens or bedrooms

-Al Satwa, (2015) Karama (2016) and Al Quoz (2017) are the areas with the most recorded fires

-Short circuits are the leading cause, followed by cigarette butts

-The average response time for the civil defence is six minutes (The DCD aims to eventually get this down to one minute)

-The are 16 Civil Defence stations in Dubai
