The Dubai Government is taking proactive measures to ensure fire safety in buildings is up to scratch.

Fire safety regulations for buildings tightened in 2012, however non-fire rated cladding materials still exist in buildings built before this time.

The work to be done will ensure Dubai remains a safe and secure, residential and investment choice.

The Real Estate Regulatory Agency, (RERA) a regulation body for the Dubai Land Department, (DLD) said companies including Dubai Properties which has various developments throughout the city have already made upgrades and the board is pushing for more developers to follow suit.

Replacing old cladding will save lives

Senior director at RERA, Mohammed Khalifa bin Hammad, said in a report on Saturday that the project will save lives while ensuring the safety of residents.

This initiative comes after numerous fires have been reported in buildings in Dubai in the last number of years.
