The UAE Is Using Public Transport More Than Ever Clocking A Massive 543 Million Rides In 2016
Dubai residents are using public transport more frequently according to recent statistics released by the transit authority
RTA services get hit about 1.5 million times per day, with statistics released this week showing the services hit 543 million uses in 2016, with more than a third of that thanks to the Dubai Metro.
The statistics do include taxis, but the metro was the frontrunner with 35% of numbers, followed by 33% for taxis.
2016 saw an increase in metro traffic, with 191 million rides, compared to 178 million in 2015.
The RTA increased the number of services on the metro lines last year, with one RTA representative crediting the change in culture towards public transport, and the ease of access to services for the growth.
The busiest station was Burjuman recording 11 million passengers passing through, thanks to its position on the both the red and green lines.
