When it rains, it pours and Dubai roads are a scary place to be during unstable weather, judging from the stats released by Dubai Police this week.

According to a police report, there were more than 203 traffic accidents on Dubai roads due to the rain and unstable weather and police received nearly 5,800 calls between 6pm on Saturday and 7am on Sunday.

Dubai Police constantly remind drivers to abide by the rules of the road, but it’s thought the majority of accidents are caused by drivers driving too fast, and not allowing enough space between cars.

The UAE was hit with thunder, lightning and flash floods

Dubai Police stepped up the ‘level of readiness to deal with any incidents in the mountainous areas and places of running floods’.

Not one, not two, but 250 road accidents were reported on the first day of Ramadan in Dubai. Lt Col Khazraj Al Khazraji, deputy director of the Command and Control Room at Dubai Police’s Operations Department, also stated that ‘reckless driving, speeding and not leaving a safe distance between vehicles’ were some of the causes of the accidents.

Motorists need to ensure their path is clear when driving, especially in residential areas or those areas where pedestrians tend to cross the road.

Residents have been asked to call 901 for non-urgent issues and 999 ONLY in cases of emergencies.
