Egyptians Will Find Today’s Google Doodle A Little Too Familiar

Avatar

You may be wondering about the ever-so-familiar Egyptian hieroglyphs on Google’s home page today, and we’re here to tell you why.

Well, today marks a significant day for the Egyptians (and the world), since, on May 26, 1954, the Khufu Ship was discovered. SO this marks 65 years since it was first found buried near the largest pyramid at Giza.

According to Surf The Spear, the ship was found under 40 HUGE stones in a pit.

Today marks the discovery of one of the world’s oldest ship that still exists!

Today, the ship is being preserved at the Giza Solar boat museum, not too far from where it was first discovered many years back.

The ship is said to date back to more than 4,000 years ago, and was built for Egypt’s second pharaoh in the Fourth Dynasty of the Old Kingdom of Egypt.

The Khufu Ship- today!

How the ship was restored

Over 1,200 pieces from the vessel were restored carefully by a professional restorer from the Egyptian Department of Antiquities, according to Google. Haj Ahmed Youssef oversaw the restoration and used his expertise by studying models found in ancient tombs.

It took a decade to restore the 143-feet long shop- WITHOUT the use of a single nail.

How fascinating!
