In a ceremony last night Nawal Al Soufi from Morocco was named the first Arab Hope Maker
Al Soufi was chosen as the deserving winner for her efforts in helping migrants and refugees lost at sea.
The inspirational winner, who does not switch off her phone as she receives hundreds calls from those in need of her help each day, was joined by four other finalists.
All five finalists will receive AED 1 million for their efforts in bringing hope to others
In a surprise move HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai awarded AED 1 Million to each nominee.
He praised their work adding "The Arab Hope Makers we see here today prove to us that regardless of how bleak the situation may seem, there is still optimism in the Arab World."
