A flydubai flight was delayed ten and a half hours after a captain was found to be intoxicated before a flight departure.

Flight FZ8018 scheduled from Kathmandu to Dubai was delayed due to the incident after a member of flydubai staff notified the airline.

The captain was breathalyzed and his blood alcohol level was found to be above the legal limit.

The flight was delayed for ten and a half hours and the captain is currently under investigation

Immediate action was taken by the airline; the pilot was removed from duty and is now subject to an internal investigation. The passengers were delayed ten and a half hours due to the incident.

A flydubai spokesperson stated the airline has zero tolerance to such actions

“Whilst reporting for duty, a pilot scheduled to operate FZ8018 from Kathmandu (KTM) to Dubai (DXB) was suspected by a colleague to be under the influence of alcohol. flydubai has a zero tolerance policy on flight crew found to be in contravention of the regulations regarding alcohol consumption. In line with these stringent rules, we conduct random tests on our operational staff. We further insist that anyone suspected of consuming alcohol prior to flight duty must be tested. In accordance with that standard the crew member in question was immediately tested and discovered to have a blood alcohol level above the legally acceptable level and was therefore immediately deemed unfit to fly.

Arrangements were made to enable passengers to continue their journey to Dubai as soon as possible. We apologise for the delay to their travel plans but the safety of our passengers and crew remains our top priority.”
