Dubai Police Quickly Found Holes In The Dubai Editor’s Story After The Death Of His Wife In Their Jumeirah Home

The death of Jane Matthew, wife of Gulf News editor at large, Francis Matthew shook Dubai in July this year.

Dubai Police told the courts on Sunday, they did not find his story convincing.

After calling the police, Matthew initially told the police he suspected thieves had killed his wife, however there was nothing missing from their Jumeirah home, and the safe was untouched.  He later confessed to hitting her with a blunt object but pleaded not guilty to the murder of his wife.

He was taken into custody and admitted to striking his wife, but he told Dubai Police he did not mean to kill her.

Dubai Police did not find his original story believable

According to a report in the Khaleej Times, Francis Matthew did not appear shocked or traumatised at the time of the incident, and though he had originally told police he tried to revive his wife, his clothes were still clean, according to police.

There were also no noise reports from neighbours at the time.

The couple were allegedly in a dispute over personal finance issues, and the possibility of downsizing to a smaller home.

A verdict has not yet been reached.
