The harrowing story of the Filipina maid who was brutally murdered, and her body stuffed into a freezer has shaken the Gulf.
And the couple that were charged, and convicted of the 29-year-old woman’s murder have now been sentenced to death for the crime.
The couple, a Lebanese man and Syrian woman, have been sentenced in absentia to death by hanging.
The man was arrested in Lebanon last month, while the woman is still at large, according to Arab News.
The case caused strain on international relations after Philippines president, Rodrigo Duterte made a statement on the matter
The body of the maid, Joanna Demafelis, was found stuffed in a freezer in the apartment belonging to the couple last year.
Duterte has implemented a ban on Filipino migrants migrating to Kuwait, and instructed national airlines to fly home any Filipino nationals from Kuwait who wish to leave.
