HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai,  has launched four different labs, each for a different end goal, that ties in with the future plans of the UAE.

The four labs were inaugurated on Tuesday, with one for the aviation sector, another for energy, then blockchain and finally, a lab for entrepreneurship. The future labs will be watched over by the Dubai Future Foundation, according to WAM.

Each lab has an end goal and that’s to upgrade all four sectors of which has its own lab

In a statement made on Tuesday, HH Sheikh Mohammed stated that these labs are meant to be a hub for ‘future-oriented innovations’ that will upgrade business and service sectors. “The labs will also support the UAE Centennial Plan 2071, to lay the foundations for building a global centre to test future innovations.”

Even the Crown Prince of Dubai was in attendance at the launch

What’s the big deal about future labs, you ask?

Other than giving a base and platform to each sector’s experimentation, these labs will pretty much have the world’s leading researchers that will continually be pushing for progression. For example, the aviation sector’s lab will house five of the world’s largest aviation companies like Emirates, Airbus, GE, Thales and Collins Aerospace. Scientific research will then be conducted in this lab to know how to take the aviation sector, as a whole, to another level.

For Blockchain, the lab is in partnership with IBM, and this space will serve as a place for blockchain technology providers to use the technology and test partnerships with other entrepreneurs and specialised companies in Area 2071. Additionally, the Energy labs will work with Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) to research into the energy sector and determine ways into adapting sustainability and bringing change.

And last but not least, the Entrepreneurship lab will be the UAE’s ‘meeting and conference room’ in Area 2071, and it’s here to support entrepreneurs and start-ups in the tech sector- a category Dubai truly believes in. Tools and facilities will also be given to those who have plans to launch and bring-to-life new projects.
