Happy 10th birthday to the Dubai Metro!
The entire Emirate celebrates 10 years since the launch of one of the most progressive forms of public transportation, really setting the tone of Dubai for the rest of the region. The Dubai Metro was launched in September 09, 2009 and has since transported more than 2 million journeys and 1.5 billion passengers.
Dubai’s ruler revealed what inspired him to dream of the Dubai Metro:
Dubai Metro was once a dream. I was 10 years old when I visited London in 1959 with my father who insisted to see a train’s cockpit. 50 years later, Dubai Metro came true in 2009. Nothing is impossible if you can dream it.”
HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum says some even rejected the concept
…saying not a lot of people would utilise this form of transport.
Look who’s talking now!
The Dubai Metro has a punctuality rate of 99.7 %
The idea for this mode of transportation was ALSO the first of its kind in the Arab world, and one of the most advanced systems in the world.
The driverless metro shows how forward-thinking Dubai is in terms of futuristic innovations.
Happy birthday, Dubai Metro!
