IT’S OFFICIAL: UAE Has The Highest Number Of Indian Migrants In The World
Not that we needed any proof but according to the 2017 International Migration Report by UN, Indian tops the world with 16.59 million migrants that live abroad and more than half of it are in the Gulf region.
What about the number of Indians living in the UAE you may ask?
Well, the country has the largest number of Indian migrants, from 978,992 in 2000 to 3.31 million till date. The UAE is followed by the US with 2.3 million people living there currently, from 1.04 million in the past, as per the report.
What is the definition of international migrants?
The report uses the term in a broader sense and takes into account anyone living in a country other their own. It also includes refugees and economic migrants, those who immigrate officially and who do so “irregularly.”
However, the report does not include children of migrants born in the countries their parents went to.
Other Gulf countries
The total number of Indians in all other Gulf countries is 8.9 million, of them, 2.27 million are in Saudi Arabia, 1.2 million in Oman and 1.16 million in Kuwait.
