27 September was a historic day for Saudi Arabia because, on the occasion of World Tourism Day, the Kingdom had announced that it was going to open its doors to tourists who want to visit for more than religious reasons.

With immediate effect, visitors will now be able to spend up to 90 days in the country and enjoy the rich heritage with either a one-year or a multiple entry visa.

Saudi Arabia FURTHER issued a statement where along with the new visas they will also ease restrictions on the dress codes for female tourists. It’s no longer mandatory for women visiting Saudi to wear abayas BUT must still dress modestly.

Visas will be available online for AED294 – which women travelling unaccompanied will now also be able to access unlike in the past

KSA will be offering visas to tourists from 49 countries around the world for which they can apply through an easy-to-use E-Visa platform

Tourists from 38 countries in Europe, 7 in Asia, as well as the US, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, will be eligible for the new visas.

HRH Princess Reema Bint Bandar mentioned that this step will ‘welcome visitors in a way that builds bridges between cultures’

The new regulations for tourist visas are in efforts to embrace tourism, reduce KSA’s dependency on oil and diversify its economy

Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, and the UAE – until recently were the only countries whose citizens that were issued free travel to the Kingdom

This historic milestone has been taken to show that the Kingdom is moving forward and is committed to the implementation of Vision 2030
