Leading Dubai Hotel TERMINATES Contract With Atul Kochhar After Anti-Islam Tweet
Twitter was in a shock after Indian born, British based chef Atul Kochhar posted an anti-Islamic tweet in response to a tweet from Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra.
The tweet sparked major outrage and now the JW Marriott Marquis Hotel Dubai, where the chef lends his name to popular Indian restaurant Rang Mahal, has officially and publicly distanced itself from the chef. Scroll for official statement.
This since-deleted tweet caused major backlash
This tweet was in response to the recent controversy surrounding TV show Quantico starring Priyanka Chopra.
"It's sad that you have not respected the sentiments of Hindus who have been terrorised by Islam over 2000 years. Shame on you"
The tweet read

Thousands blasted the chef and many called for a boycott of his restaurants
It is this normalisation of hate which is letting this celebrity chef get away with using such vile, provocative language against a community. @JWDubaiMarquis when you host iftaar evenings at marriott dubai, is this the spirit you celebrate ? pic.twitter.com/Cp7NY9htev— Rana Ayyub (@RanaAyyub) June 11, 2018
And now JW Marriott Marquis Hotel has confirmed the hotel has terminated the contract and all association with the chef
In an email issued to press, the statement reads;
"Following the recent comments made by Chef Atul Kochhar, we have taken the decision to end our agreement with him for Rang Mahal. With the termination of our agreement, Chef Atul will no longer be associated with the restaurant and the JW Marriott Marquis Hotel Dubai.
At the JW Marriott Marquis Hotel Dubai we pride ourselves on creating a culture of diversity and inclusion for our guests and associates across the hotel and our restaurants.
