A Lebanese man who insulted religion and abused two women in an altercation at an Al Barsha night club has been handed an AED500,000 fine.

The 29-year-old has also been given a three month jail sentence after he was found guilty of blasphemy by the Court of First Instance.

The incident happened in July, when the man reportedly slapped the sisters and called them prostitutes.  It was reported to the Bur Dubai police station at 7am on July 6.

He slapped the hands of one, used bad language when speaking about God and insulted religion

The sisters have since dropped all charges against the man.

He was originally charged with blasphemy, consuming alcohol without a licence, verbal abuse and physical assault, however the court found he was only guilty of blasphemy.

The defendant has 15 days to appeal the verdict and will be deported following the sentence.
