Qatar WAS Omitted From A Map In The Louvre Abu Dhabi But It Won’t Happen Again

The Louvre Abu Dhabi opened to much fanfare at the end of 2017 and the architectural masterpiece hit headlines once again last week.

A visiting journalist spotted a map of the region in the children’s museum which omitted Qatar, the image was retweeted by the chairperson of Qatar Museums, while the UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs noted at the time that the Louvre Abu Dhabi itself to a higher standard than small mistakes.

The map has since been replaced

The map has been replaced and the museum, which celebrates tolerance, has stated measures have been put in place to ensure the same mistake won’t be made again.

Louvre admin reveal the mistake was seen in a simplified illustration map aimed at informing visitors of the historical journey of an old vessel.

All other maps, including 40 master maps visible in each of the 12 main halls, are accurate, according to the Louvre Abu Dhabi via Wam.ae.

The UAE Minister of State for Foreign Affairs noted at the time

“Culture remains regarded on a higher standard than these small mishaps.”​

“Following the tweet by the chairperson of Qatar museums, I was surprised by the exaggerations made regarding a small mistake made by the gift shop in the Abu Dhabi Louvre. There were other observations from individuals who were clearly looking to create unnecessary controversy, but culture remains regarded on a higher standard than these small mishaps.”
