Former Ireland president and UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Mary Robinson has given an interview, following her meeting with the princess of Dubai, Sheikha Latifa – who was rumoured to be missing for the past six months.

Robinson gave an interview on BBC’s Radio 4, following her visit on December 15, to Dubai, to meet with the daughter (Latifa) of the Ruler of Dubai, HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.

In March, a video was circulated that purported to be Sheikha Latifa ‘escaping from Dubai’ via a yacht, speaking in a 40-minute message about her want to escape from Dubai and her father, however it was unverified.

The princess went missing, and a campaign was ongoing to find her. The UAE invited Mary Robinson to meet with Latifa – on the request of HRH Princess Haya, wife of HH Sheikh Mohammed.

Robinson told Radio 4 that she has spoken with UN human rights chief, Michelle Bachelet and Human Rights Watch executive director, Ken Roth about her findings

She said that Latifa is a ‘troubled young woman’ receiving care, as she’s suffering from a serious medical condition.

Robinson also said she will return to Dubai in March to meet with them again.
