The UAE Ministry of Health and Prevention issued the warning regarding some supplements that are sold online.

According to the release, supplements sold online are unregulated and therefore may  contain ‘ toxic energizers or synthetic male hormone boosters that may cause serious health risks, including fatal injury to the liver and kidney and threaten the user’s life.’

Dietary supplements provide extra nutrients and are commonly used in addition to exercise to benefit the body.

Local hospitals and health authorities have been informed

Dr. Amin Hussain Al Amiri, Assistant Undersecretary of Public Health Policy & Licensing, MOHAP issued a circular to local health authorities stating that side effects can include liver injury, ‘severe acne, hair loss, increased aggression and depression, and life-threatening reactions such as kidney damage, heart attacks, stroke and pulmonary embolism (a blockage of a major blood vessel in the lungs) and coagulation in deep veins.’

The UAE is monitoring the effects but it’s important for parents and media to raise awareness.
