The Dubai Courts Have Released A Convict Serving A Life Sentence To Attend Her Daughter’s Wedding

A Dubai court has granted early release to a Ukrainian woman allowing her to attend her daughter’s wedding.

The woman was serving a life sentence for killing a prostitute in a premeditated murder in 1999.

A Yemeni police man was also given a life sentence in relation to the crime, which included theft of the victim’s personal effects, disposing the body, engaging in sex and consuming alcohol, according to a report from Gulf News.

The woman applied for early release

After 15 years behind bars, the woman applied for early release, asking for mercy to attend her daughter’s wedding. Her daughter was five when the woman moved to work in Dubai and is now 24. 

The court approved the plea and both prisoners, the woman and the Yemeni man who also applied for early release, will be freed immediately.

After completing 15 years behind bars prisoners have the right to petition for release

This is according to article 1/45 of the Federal Law No. 43 of 1992.
