New laws have been passed by HH Sheikh Khalifa, President of the UAE, concerning animals in the UAE.

There are two new laws dog owners need to be aware of

Firstly, dog owners must have a licence for their pet and secondly, dogs must be kept on a leash at all times in public places. AED10,000 is the minimum fine for disobeying the law, maximum AED 100,000.

There are also new laws concerning wild animals

Ownership of all wild animals is now prohibited.

Breaking this law could set you back between AED10,000 adn AED500,000 in fines. (There are some exceptions to this rule, including zoos, research centres and wildlife parks)  There is also detailed information and penalties listed  for people who use an animal to attack another person (You’re looking at prison time and fines of up to AED 400,000 for this.)
