REMINDER: New Traffic Rules Are Coming Into Effect Tomorrow Across The UAE

On Saturday new traffic laws will come into effect and all motorists should be aware of the new rules.

Police have been carrying out awareness campaigns since April to educate residents about the amended traffic laws and these campaigns will continue after tomorrow.

The amended laws have been introduced in response to an increasing number to road fatalities which reached 725 last year, an increase from 675 in 2015.

Special police patrols will be deployed to ensure motorists are abiding by the new laws

The patrols will be penalising motorists who do not comply with the new traffic rules.

The law includes 17 articles which focus on re-examining traffic violations.

Some of the new rules focus on child safety in cars, window tinting, speeding, crowding around accident sites, failure to stop at a red signal, jaywalking and failure to wear seat belts.

The penalties for some of these offences have increased due to the high number of recorded incidents in the past.

Offenders can expect an increase in fines as well as an increase in the number of black points.

The Ministry Of Interior issued the decision to implement these new laws, in March this year, in a bid to make the UAE one of the safest countries in the world.

Smart radars and cameras will monitor many of the new violations

Additional forces from the traffic police departments will be deployed on the ground to ensure the new rules are followed and will play a pivotal role in making the UAE roads safer.

Brigadier-General Saif Al Zari Al Shamsi, Commander-in-Chief of the Sharjah Police, said the police are “well-prepared to enforce the rules from July 1”.

“More than 90 patrols will be deployed across the emirate – especially on roads that witness a large number of accidents,” he said.

A special campaign has been launched to increase awareness among residents

The initiative, called “Let’s Share Responsibility”, aims to increase all residents awareness of the new traffic rules.

Brochures explaining the changes are being distributed to motorists and the Umm Al Quwain police have already distributed 2,000 booklets about the new traffic rules.

As part of the campaign, all reception and customer service staff will wear scarves with the logo of the scheme ‘Let’s share reasonability’ on them, he explained, “The move will help remind the public about the new traffic amendments.”
